What The Freak, Google?

I thought when you bought out Blogger.com, that you would bring your much vaunted professionalism, eliminating annoying outtages, with you?

Well, after positively hours of Blogger being down, I ended up with 92 hits in one day (my lowest total in MONTHS), and consequently, my lowly advert over at Rantburg which expired on the 5th December, was not put to its ultimate and costly, best use.

I don't know what your Dashborad notice board says, but nary a peep as to why on mine.

"Blogger News - Maintenance on Monday, November 14"

You'd think, YOU'D THINK, there'd be more, wouldn't you? Just as a courtesy.

Happy though I have been with Blogger.com since Google bought them out, which means I am not thinking of changing blog-locales, they still owe their dependants a wee biddy update as to why they were conked out for over 7 hours.

The noive.

ADDENDUM: Right, well, this outtage has totally thrown me out of whack for the evening. I shall blog cheerily for you all, tomorrow in the morning.

  • Why do those outtages happen? I hope Google understands that it can be very disconcerting to us Sundries fans to not be able to connect with you before we go to sleep! We can have nightmares that maybe you will not be there in the morning either! ;)

  • Over 7 hours? Ouch...that was a big bit of downtime. I am pondering whether to double blog, blogger and another.

  • Why do those outtages happen?

Someone came to my blog via Technorati, after having tagged their inquiry as:

    "Why did Blogger.com Go Down"

Guess what? I was only 1 of 2 bloggers who mentioned it in a blogpost.

Now how is Google going to get the message if you don't whinge about it, huh?

I hope Google understands that it can be very disconcerting to us Sundries fans to not be able to connect with you before we go to sleep!

Mmm. Sleep. That's just before you read my post, when I have inserted messages in my posts, which then you dream about.

    Far-off, lilting voice

    Co-dependency is such a lark!

Well, love you could, albeit since you're in the UK, usually it doesn't affect you in the peak hours GMT.

Try to see what's out there. You may just pay more, but get more.

    Cheers,
    Victoria

    Dang. Paul stole my idea.

Don't forget the knock-off Pradas, next time!

  • I managed to get a post in noting the outage last night, but I've actually been surprised not to see more generally, outside of you and Ann.

And it really is annoying that Blogger's not more forthcoming: that notice on Dashboard sort of added insult to injury.

Perversely, the lack of info on what's going made me dial up and listen to this song, as an antidote, of sorts.

    Skoals!

  • Here's the official form letter I just got:

    Hello,

Thank you for reporting this. Blog*Spot was down for a few hours yesterday due to an unexpected server outage, causing timeout, 404, and similar errors when trying to view blogs. This problem was solved and we are implementing better monitoring to better catch and resolve such issues in the future. If you continue to have problems viewing Blog*Spot blogs, please try clearing your browser's cache and cookies, then reloading the blog(s) in question. Thanks for your patience.

    Sincerely,
    Blogger Support

  • Hello,

Trying to sound laid-back about it.

Thank you for reporting this. Blog*Spot was down for a few hours

A few! Huh. Also, Blogspot has an asterisk in its name?

What are they, the Roger Maris of blog sites?

  • Yesterday, your word verifier wasn't accepting the 'word' it displayed. Let's try again!

In the TV biz, commercials are replayed at no charge if they are not aired in their entirety. Shouldn't blog ads work the same way? I know you couldn't be reached with a 'click' but, what the hey!
