Palin broke Biden's poise with two visibly effective blows: "white flag", and "before you were the running mate". (He didn't, for whatever reason, even try to parry them.) After this, she was in control of the whole show.

Many people look at these events from a wonk perspective, but the wonks have all already made their choice. Palin won two less visible fronts: she talked like a regular person (not a lawyer who's been in office for decades), and she dominated (with remarkable grace) the alpha contest.
