Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany
And...?

Tina Yothers, Family Ties Munchkin
IN THE COMMENTS: Seems Angela Merkel has that Chancellor-next-door look to her, since a lot of the commenters have come up with other famous person similarities -- included amongst them "a blonde Harriet Miers" (meow!), Bonnie Franklin of One Day At A Time fame, and also, Julia McKenzie of Fresh Fields, that abysmal "Britcom" back in the day.

I was thinking: Blonde Harriet Miers.

Tina Yothers claims that she was not responsible for "Family Ties;" she was just obeying orders! Heil Keaton!
*LOL*
I watching the I Love the 80s marathon on VH-1 earlier, and saw that Michael Moore said Alex P. Keaton was the guy you always wanted to beat the crap out of.
That's funny, because that's almost exactly what I thought about Alex's parents.
Isn't Bonnie Franklin (from "One Day at a Time") more like Merkel?
I had to look her up, albeit I vaguely knew about the series.
Here is Bonnie Franklin "then".
Good one!
Especially the mushroom Dorothy Hamill haircut Dr. Merkel also favoured at one time. ;)
But in reading the cast credits, I saw Mackenzie Phillips' name, and that lit an instant light-bulb.
Merkel also looks a lot like British sitcom star, Julia McKenzie -- of Fresh Fields fame, if you guys saw that here in the US.
See? Pretty close too, I think.
Aren't there swarthy Polish Plumbers in Germany's future?
Hey! Helmut Kohl was fairly dark. And he had some Polish in him, I think. :)
Maybe Michael, the great commentarist on Dr. Merkel before, would like to engage the conversation now.
Cheers,
Victoria

Ohhhhhh, you're bad, you're bad! I love you.
As Alice Roosevelt Longworth used to embroider on her cushions,
If you have nothing nice to say, come sit by me.
Trust you to get in the last Harriet Miers reference, Ruth Anne!

Tina Yothers toured with Ricky Martin and Minudo!?! Thats enough for a thread in itself.
Get out.
Where did you read that??
She gets points for loving to play hockey.
Nah, she just said that so that Puerto Rico would get an NHL team now that they failed to land the Expos.
San Juan Spray Painters
Has a certain ring.

I see...Zellwinger as Harriet Miers. Maybe it winds up being a thriller/revenge plot! "The Number of the Dead was 9!" Hitchcockesque!
Speaking of Dorothy Hamill...I had such a crush on her back in her Olympic days...good memories...

Renee Zellweger or...?? Good grief, you're so catty too, meow!

Dial "Alito" for Murder? ;)

Yeah, yeah. You and half of male America, apparently.
The other half were stuck on Olga Korbut. Go figure.

That Yothers/Merkel comparison defamed one of them, but for the life of me I can't decide which one.
(and some curiosities are best left unsated, I visited this site to see what Olga looks like now)

Ron and XWL: Poor Olga. The Scottsdale sun on her European skin. The last photo could go in the one-facelift-too-many hall of shame.

Ruth Anne: just to clarify. I had no crush on Olga Korbut, that's Victoria's assumption about half the male population. Just Hamill for me, thanks! (oh, and Peggy Fleming if we go back a bit further! But I'll pass on Sonja Henje!)
idle thought: Maybe Tina Yothers could do that Stasi Sit-Com we've all wanted to see....
