Gwen Ifill's New Book

Gwen Ifill is a respected PBS journalist and will be the Vice-Presidential debate moderator, following in her colleague, Jim Lehrer's, shoes.

But did you know that she has a book coming out on January 20, 2009 -- Inauguration Day? It's called (are you ready for this?):

The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama

Think about this title.

Can you imagine a writer coming out with a book in 2005 called, "Politics in the Age of Kerry"? It would have presupposed a Kerry win the previous year, and it's ludicrous to imagine it would've been as relevant without the win. It will enhance Miss Ifill's book sales that much more, if Senators Obama-Biden win the election in November.

Here she is talking about the book:

Look, I'm not already setting up the narrative that Gwen Ifill is out to get Sarah Palin, and will favour Senator Biden during the debate. But I do hope you realise what Conservatives mean when we say that media tend to tilt Left politically, and that concerns us because there is a pretense, at least, of neutrality.

Fact is, there is none. We could live with that, even grudgingly, if it were only transparent.

But it's not.

ADDED: Heh. Malkin's readers have a suggestion for Governor Palin at Thursday's debate:

Tons of readers recommend that Sarah Palin open her debate remarks by congratulating Ifill on her book and asking her to tell everyone the title.

Not going to happen, first of all, because it's cheesy and un-(Vice-)Presidential.

But I do have to say that there is a very real conflict of interests that should be divulged at the start of the debate by Ifill, if she's a true professional.

Drudge certainly is not pulling any punches in reporting this story. Look at the Doomsday-sized headline.
