Thank You, Massachusett(e)s

At 11:40 PM EST on 19 January, almost two hours after the losing Democratic candidate for Senator from Massachusetts, Martha Coakley, gave her concession speech, this is how the two most prominent Bostonian newspapers' front-pages looked like.

BOSTON GLOBE

BOSTON HERALD

Nope. No sore losers here. Just media, the bitter clingers of hate.

Congratulations, Senator-Elect Brown!

  • Midnight Oh Eight, the Globe's front page still doesn't have one single reference, one photo, one race-specific update to the win, at least on the webpage I am visiting:

  • Does this mean Brown has inspired you to return?

    Now that's a victory. ;)

  • This headline:

In stunning upset, Brown captures US Senate in Mass

    has a timestamp of January 19, 2010 11:26 PM

As of right now, the main page has this headline:

    Brown: What happened here
    'can happen all over America'

  • Hey Victoria,

Glad to see you back here!

By Blogger El Pollo Real, at Wed Jan 20, 02:01:00 am GMT-5

  • Hey guys! First I wanted to give you a collective hello before launching into my spiel for each. I am not back yet, I am far away from it, I think, but I feel much better than November 2008 when I basically retreated from pop culture, even the 'net.

Still, thank you SO MUCH for your kind words, which I surely do not deserve...

    Cheers,
    Victoria

They are owned by the NYT now...how far behind is subscription to the Globe too?

    (Hugs!)

  • My darling JSU, to you, I must give you special greetings and hugs, because I haven't "dealt" with you -- unlike the others (so far) here.

Not yet. But one day. And don't worry: I will never leave you entirely (God willing!).

P.S.: I read that other site regularly!

    Cheers,
    Victoria

  • Hey Peter! Thanks for the comment and clarification. :)

Unfortunately, when you Google Boston Globe, you get this link.

    http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/

    This headline below:

As of right now, the main page has this headline

You get only when you press "Home", to the left of Today's Globe.

Now, it could be a Globe quirk, and certainly there is nothing to prevent someone from clicking on "Home", but surely the question is why don't they have a story about Brown on the page Google says is the front page? Even a little blurb.

I find that odd. And petty. But, oh, so typical.

    Cheers,
    Victoria

  • Hey Pollo Real! Thanks for coming over and taking the time to leave a comment (and to cheer my efforts)!

  • Dearest Victoria -

I just, on a whim, thought I'd stop by today to see if you were going to comment on the race in Massachusetts.

What an interesting irony that the seat of the reigning "health care senator" was lost to a Republican. I figured you may come back.

Anyway...I checked the previous post and I'm dying to know if either Chicken Little or I won your quiz all those months ago!!

If you get a chance, you can visit me in Facebook land, which is where I spend most of my free time....and just trying to learn to "be me."

    Hugs to you!!

  • Thanks Vic. I saw your traces, as I'm sure you've seen mine.

It had to be Massachusetts, right? There's a legacy there that even decades of Kennedy-cult somnolescence couldn't erase.

Too bad I didn't have a reliable email to reassure your nervousness in the runup: I was certain of the outcome days ago. Opposition blame-leaks don't lie.

By Blogger JSU, at Wed Jan 20, 09:18:00 pm GMT-5

  • I followed the surprise victory yesterday, and snickered and giggled at the shock and complaints on the Left. The Globe is just pouting. Like most of the Lefties.

Today I figured I'd click on my blogroll and hit the old faves. And what did I find? Vicks!

Wish you were back, all the way, but at least we know you're still 'with us'!

    *Hugs!*

  • Glad to hear from you again, Victoria!!!

Was afraid you'd been hit by a car and died or something......

Any chance of continuing updates or maybe a hint of when regular ones will resume??

Oh yes, just as a side note I voted for Brown.

  • Congrats to Spurs on their CL place!

Hope you're around for the WC, Vic.

  • Guys!! Thanks so much for your comments!

I will probably write up a post when the Tories-Lib-Dem situation is finalised, probably as soon as Monday. I don't think they'll take longer, since sterling will take a pounding, given the instability after the Greek debacle.

    - JAL, thanks for keeping the faith! I miss you!

    - Drill Sgt, it's really good to hear from you! :)

    - STEVEN THANK YOU SO MUCH. Trust you to remember that, which still means a lot to me, despite the fact that I haven't watched a football match in 2/3 years (sad but true).

I may possibly be around here on my blog for the WC, but I'm not sure. We'll see!

    Cheers,
    Victoria

  • Vicks, double cheers for Spurs! And may all your affairs turn up for the best! You're missed by at least some people in at least some aspects of life. :) Don't give up! (An ironic of funny wish from me at my current circumstances, but hey, no doctor cures himself.)

By Blogger El Kot, at Sun May 09, 12:12:00 am GMT-4

  • Hey Elko! Don't worry me. Hope all is well.

    Cheers,
