We Interrupt Your Regularly Scheduled Sundries...
(Welcome Althouse readers! This is Victoria writing on Renato's post to inform you I am alive, well, and very talkative, comme d'habitude. Check out this more recent post of mine, with pics of the Hurricane)
Hello faithful Sundries readers, I've heard from Vicky a couple of times today and she is doing well, tired, but well. It unfortunately looks like she might not have power for 2 weeks. There are apparently 6 million people without power in South Florida. Yes, I can hear those sighs too.
I will try and get an update either tomorrow or wednesday from Vicky on the situation and mood of South Florida and post it here. Keep the people of South Florida in your thoughts and prayers for the next little while as people try and pick up the pieces.
In the meantime, I will be trying to keep up the spirit of sundries as best I can. Apologies in advance for the excess use of eh and aboot!
*this blog will now be running on timmies*

Thank you for the information, really tough break that. I hope their home and property are otherwise in decent shape. Do they have water, I hope?

Thanks for the news. Good to hear that she is fine. Sorry I have no prayers to give but lot of encouragements.

Hi Paul, the wind apparently tore off some of the condo roof but everyone seems okay.
As of yesterday there was no running water. No word yet as to how long it will be out.

Thanks, Renato! I thought of Victoria often during all the storm coverage this weekend and yesterday.
Tell her that we miss her, both here at her blog, but also--if I may be so bold--at those where her regular postings in comments are so valued.

Thank you Renato, first and foremost for keeping up the blog for the near-foreseeable future (as he said, might be 2 weeks...).
I am actually logging in from the University of Miami (Main Campus in leafy Coral Gables), whose power grid is shared with the all-important "Doctor's Hospital" next door.
Like all hospitals, they are given first priority not just for re-connexion, but in their case, to be given power outright the moment the storm is done with.
I'm not sure if the neighbouring homes also get to luck out at this situation, but I saw a lot of happy people jogging around, as usual -- so maybe.
That Timmies sure could come in handy now, Ren! :)
Cheers,
Victoria

Merci Shuss! That's okay about the prayers -- you only find God when you're in the eye of a hurricane. ;)
But thank you for checking the blog to see how I was doing, and to send your words of encouragement.
Take care of your baby, and family. :)
Bises,
Victoria

Reader_Iam, you may be so bold, and I TRULY appreciate your kind comments! :)
I will try to reconnect via here whenever I can, but the petrol is very VERY difficult to get. We'll see though.
Thank you for checking in!
Cheers,
Victoria

Lastly, my dear Paul. ;)
My parents and I were wondering why the electricity, water pressure and the like were not working as well as with Hurricane Katrina back in 24 August.
We conjectured two things, one rational, one cynical.
1- This was a Category 3 Hurricane, not a 1.
2- The VMAs weren't being staged on the Sunday after the Thursday hurricane.
Our condo generators are either not working, or they can't get enough petrol to run it.
Ah well. Candles, my friends, candles....
Take care, Paul!
Cheers,
Victoria

Renato, thank you very much for the update.
Victoria, well, look at you! A sight for sore eyes! Excellent to hear from you while sad at the news. It was feared as much when Wilma grew to such strength and lost so little crossing Florida.
I am so sorry and hope for a return of your water and power.

Renato, thank you very much for the update.
He's a brick, and already an Althouse linked-blogger! ;)

It was hairy alright, Paul. I'll be updating the blog shortly with more info.

All clear here, thank heavens.

Hey, that's what dad said -- have to keep that stiff-upper lip up, lest the rest of our face buckles in. ;)

Never had any doubts, Paul!
Mind you, I expected more along the lines of 53%...

Or indeed, Canadian Tire-blogging.
I sure could've used their power tools these past few days.
