And Now For Something Completely Delicious

Guess what I am eating right now, at this odd time? Why beignets, naturellement!

Not just any beignets, mind, but allegedly Cafe du Monde beignets, from the heart of New Orleans.

The story is long, perhaps interesting, but never mind, as it pales in comparison to their chewy goodness.

Every winter here, the Cuban-Americans make a pilgrimage to buy churros and chocolate in some godforsaken part of Sweetwater. An ex-boyfriend took me once, and I'll never forget it.

You and dozens of others stand in the queue to buy just a handful of these doughnutty Latin American delights, which cost almost nothing, but taste magical in hot chocolate against the rare freeze of SoFla nights.

So obviously, when I bit into my authentic beignet tonight, I decided to crack open another tablet of Abuelita, and dunk to my hearts content.

Mmm. Utterly delicious. Want?

  • Victoria, you are clearly a choco-tease! But that's ok...I like that! mmm...and the beignets too...good stuff!

BTW, your posts lately have been quite excellent! Kudos. (here I mean the actually word, not the bad chocolate-cookie like thing/product!)

I fear your Oprah post will be prescient.

  • Jose, would you happen to know that traditional churreteria (!?) ;) that I mention?

It's been many years since my ex Jorge, and I went, and of course, I am not about to call him to find out. :)

It's past the City of Miami Police station, in that road Miami Senior High.

I think near Reys Pizzas. :)

Ah well, churros were GREAT wherever you get it!

    Cheers,
    Victoria

Now now, remember what I said in the Abuelita post:

    >Yes, I am that rarest of females:

    I don't like chocolate.

The thing is, my one exception is cocoa/hot chocolate.

Also, I like to evoke a certain happy feeling when people come to my blog. Food posts always do that. :)

BTW, your posts lately have been quite excellent! Kudos.

Thank you! I've gotten two very nice comments on that actually, and they don't me swollen-headed (not much ;), but rather make me want to better them all the time.

(here I mean the actually word, not the bad chocolate-cookie like thing/product!)

    Aha? Never heard of it!

Whenever I sign on to Yahoo Fantasysports homepage, I see this advert on top.

It's a diet ad, and one of the two women say this about cookie-dough:

"Does anyone actually ever BAKE cookies with this?"

I thought to myself, what do they do if not that? Then a flashback at a film I once saw...they eat it raw.

    UGH!

    I am just out-of-the-loop, Ron. :)

I fear your Oprah post will be prescient.

    Alas, and alack, Ron.

Hope you don't live in Illinois. ;)

    Cheers,
    Victoria

  • Don't think I've been to that one. Sweetwater is way out West, but Miami Senior High is in Little Havana. Agree it is not a good reason to call Jorge! ;)

  • Evil Kudos!

I cannot stand that whole 'raw cookie dough' thing! Double UGH!

Hope you don't live in Illinois. ;)

Michigan, actually. Perhaps us lucky Michiganders will get Michael Moore to run in our fair state! In the future, perhaps there will be a Constitutional Amendment requiring a
$100mil grossing film, (domesitic, of course!) or a TV series with a minimum 5 year run, or a good "Q" rating to able to run for public office!

  • Want?

Yes. And I'm not even a sweets fan, much less a chocoholic, as a general rule.

Wanna nab a plane ride, right now. So sad that I can't.

  • And,hi, Victoria!

Your posts on Althouse caused me to check out your blog. I've spent some time tonight reading it over and, not surprisingly, found it well worthwhile.

    Thanks!

Yeah but it's in that same road...erm, Flagler, that's it. ;)

(As you can see, I also don't head out much to Sweetwater)

Agree it is not a good reason to call Jorge! ;)

He and I remain friendly, though. His parents loved me...I really should give his mother a call just to say, "Oye, señora, como estas?". :)

(It's from them, that I perfected the Spanish I took at school)

    Cheers,

  • Evil Kudos!

Dear baby Jesus. I looked it up.

"Kudos Granola Bars with either Snickers candy bar chunks or M&M'S mini baking bits."

How to express my amazement properly? :)

Do you know about this Glaswegian delicacy, Ron?

    Fried Mars Bars...

    Michigan, actually.

Ah, I've driven up there, believe it or not! To visit a friend up near E. Lansing.

Perhaps us lucky Michiganders will get Michael Moore to run in our fair state!

    As the prize pig, doubtlessly.

    Cheers,
    Victoria

Wow, what lovely thing to say, Reader_Iam. :)

I'm glad you came, and that you found my oft-light-hearted commentaries on Althouse sufficiently intriguing to take a peek here.

And speaking of peeks, I went to your Profile, and loved your "question" response about unborn stage actors' names. ;)

    Please come back anytime!

    Cheers,
    Victoria
