Say it. Just Say It!

(Welcome Anchoress readers! Note: Video added below)

Incredibly frustrating Beavis-and-Butthead moment, complete with my raising a red hood on my head in exasperation, shaking my body and clenching my teeth.

Mary Mapes was peddling her new anti-blogger book as the late guest on The Factor, Thursday, when she was flat-out asked by O'Reilly what kind of politics she had.

"Erm, like all Americans, I guess...I'm all over the place."

"Are you a registered Democrat?".

"You know, I don't know."

"You don't know?".

"I don't know...

I'm an Independent, or a...(pause, hesitation) a Democrat. I don't recall what I'm registered in Texas. I know I'm not a (hesitation, oh she put her foot in it now), you know, a Republican (half-whispered)."

"So you lean liberal."

"Well, my children think they have the most conservative parents in the world."

"You know what I mean."

"Sometimes, I'm liberal. Sometimes, I'm conservative. It depends on the issue (trailing off)."

Come on!

This is precisely the type of attitude people who disdain Mainstream Media abhor.

It's not that she can't be Liberal, Progressive, Communist, Socialist, Maoist, Fascist, Republican, Democrat, whatever.

It's just that because American journalists consider themselves "neutral", that they cannot even for a brief moment, insinuate what political precepts they hold.

If they do, they feel this veil of neutrality will slip off their face, revealing them for what they really are, allowing the other side to have their precious "gotcha!" moment", which...they wouldn't have if they were HONEST TO BEGIN WITH.

Like so many people, they too have deeply held political beliefs, which are based on a particular world view. Even moreso in journalism, when they deal with the topic on a much more daily basis than we do.

And because they know that the genie is out of the bottle now, with the advent of a more aggressive opposing side like Fox News, and the blossoming of Conservative talk radio, not to mention the Blogosphere which brought her crashing down to earth, they can't for a second be seen taking sides.

Give me a break with "I don't know". You know, lady.

We all know what we are.

It's this type of cagey, squirrelly, hypocritical reply that angers certain people the most about MSM.

WATCH: The Political Teen, has the video here. Funnily enough, Crooks and Liars, though he has oodles of videos for last nights' shows, including Judy Miller on LKL, and even O'Reilly on San Francisco, complete silence on Mary Mapes' ridiculous performance above. I guess you're only a crook or a liar when you're on the other side.

UPDATE: French media are grappling with their own ethical questions at the moment. In one of the most self-serving professional volte-faces, M. Dassier of the privately run TF1 channel, said that his network will not show any more cars on fire.

"Journalism is not simply a matter of switching on the cameras and letting them roll. You have to think about what you’re broadcasting."

Can we have that in writing please?

That when the next big hurricane hits the US, that you won't linger lovingly on the chaos, you won't send crew after crew to cover it, since it heightens the drama, and puts a whole society, and its leadership into the worst possible light? Or is it just when it's a particular country that is being made to look bad, so the object of your disaffection is humiliated, that you have pangs of conscience? (Via The Anchoress)

UPDATED THOUGHT: It occured to me after I posted, that MSM must resent the heck out of politicians, especially those who deal in the realm of political journalism.

They are supposed to be neutral, above-board, faithfully presenting both sides with equal honesty, and all the while, the politicians themselves get to opine whichever way they want on the self-same, sensitive issues.

That the current President of the US must frustrate them, in this regard, beyond description, must go without saying.

All journalists are oppositional to government. They see their role as watchdogs to those in power, on our behalf.

But think about it.

He gets to hold the most outré, un-PC viewpoints (as they see them), such as being against abortion. He's religious, in fact, he's a born-again Christian, both stances of which they cannot so much as mention themselves, because it's not separation of Church and State; for them, it's separation of Church and Society.

And even holding these very polarising opinions, he got to the White House, not once, but twice. Meanwhile, they have to go around, at least giving the pretense of walking on political-eggshells.

Oh my. No wonder they hate him. He's everything they'd love to be able to be, and can't be -- not because of us, the public. But because of their own self-imposed "neutrality". That's a lot of repressed anger out there.

When I read your post I thought that maybe Dassier was simply thinking if we give them less publicity maybe they will stop burning cars, etc. It was only when I clicked on the actual story that I read Dassier admits he is doing that to not help the candidates that lean to the right! Dassier is simply more honest than Mary Mapes!!!

That was how he started his address to his fellow journalists.

That it was irresponsible news reporting.

So far, so good. I agree.

It was only when I clicked on the actual story that I read Dassier admits he is doing that to not help the candidates that lean to the right! Dassier is simply more honest than Mary Mapes!!!

    BINGO.

There you go, Jose. You hit the nail on the head.

Now, let me tell you something straight off.

I too don't want the extreme righties to gain even a foothold of power in Europe.

    I am as fiercely anti-Fascist as I am anti-Communist.

    But please.

The whole reason M. Dassier and no doubt other news journalists don't want to show France burning, is that OF COURSE it makes the extreme-right look correct in this matter.

AND THAT DOESN'T FIT THEIR AGENDA.

Earlier, to another commenter, I noted, when we posited that if Americans are so all-gung ho anti-France, why was it that US news media (who never displays any hesitancy to show the worst of news stories around the world), why was it that suddenly the media got all prissy and discrete with the French riots?

I think we all know the answer. You said it above.

There are many reasons, but it makes the political side they do not like (of any country), look correct.

And then, they will be elected.

    Cheers,
    Victoria
