You Show Me Yours. I'll Show You Mine

Let's see what our Desktops look like. Print Screen, then go to Xs.to to post it.

A window into each other's tastes.

  • Posted my screen shot. The central photo was taken for an ad campaign that got banned in France and Milan for being blasphemous.

  • Delightful, Jules!

I see you are one of the many with Firefox. Save me. ;)

Here is what your post quoted:

Judge Jean-Claude Magendie agreed with the French Catholic Church, granting it an injunction to ban the ads of leading fashion house Marithe and Francois Girbaud.

Ads feature designer-clad women in the place of Jesus and the Apostles, one of them with her arms around a half-naked man in jeans.

Despite arguments by Girbaud’s lawyers that banning the ads would be censorship, the judge ruled that the ads were “a gratuitous and aggressive act of intrusion on people’s innermost beliefs.”

    I marvel at this.

That an Italian Court banned the ad in Milan, doesn't surprise me.

But the French are notorious for the importance placed on their laïque-ness, if you will.

Can you imagine the furour in the UK/US if a judge banned this rather innocuous rendering of Da Vinci's Last Supper?

I should explain that whilst I am very happy to call myself religious, I don't get bent out of shape by these types of images.

I don't know about you, but I've always found Dogma Jesus, hilarious.

I mean, neither the MF Girbaud ad campaign nor the Danish Jesus are Ofili's dung-covered Madonna, ya know?

    Chill, people. ;)

Thanks for sharing, as they say, Jules!

    Cheers,
    Victoria

Don't be a wet blanket, Renato. Come on.

You know, I'm seriously disappointed this thread didn't take off.

Either we're all embarrassed to show each other our Desktops (why?), or you're all into pr0n with pics of centrefolds next to your Firefox icons.

    Freaks!

    Cheers,
    Victoria

  • I clicked on "SandyPuss" with a dry mouth.

There's that Ron up to his old porno tricks again, I said.

    *click*

To my shock, it was what I presume is Sandra Bullock?!?!

    Well, why not indeed.

    She's the quintessential un-Hollywood starlet, a brunette.

And she gave 1,000,000 buckeroonies of her own money to help out Katrina victims.

    She's a good egg with a nice puss. ;)

    Good one, Ron!

(And I see you have mIRC too ;)

    Cheers,
    Victoria

  • Yes, Victoria, I admit...I am smitten. I concede that Frau Bullock is not exactly Kate Hepburn for acting chops, but what can I say, you love who you love!

She also kicked up $1mil for 9/11 victims as well; she was nearby when it happened and spent days helping people out. (like how Steve Buscemi went back to his old firehouse and worked as a fireman during those bad times)

    Magnifique!

I confess, I like seeing the programmes we have, as much as the wallpapers chosen.

It has reminded me to update Adobe Reader as I have the 5.0 version still. :)

I have a supply of Hubble images that rotate on my desktop.

    This one is most freaky.

I can't decide if it looks like a galatic praying mantis...or the finger of ET.

    Thank you, Benning!

Yeah, that's the big knock on her. But then, every generation had to have its Merle Oberon: pretty to look at, great to know, not so hot in the acting department. ;)

She also kicked up $1mil for 9/11 victims as well; she was nearby when it happened and spent days helping people out.

    Bless her heart.

She can diss Dubya now any day for me.

(like how Steve Buscemi went back to his old firehouse and worked as a fireman during those bad times)

I like Steve Buscemi! What with my love of character actors, as you now, it's almost a given.

But you have to love those choppers he's got. They make me feel at home. ;)

    Cheers,
    Victoria

    Oh Jorge...very touching. *sniff*

    Thanks for posting, though. :)

P.S.: I notice a lot of us have our shortcuts with the telltale arrow. I hate that little arrow, but a programme I have, System Mechanic fortunately has a section where you can take them out.

I also hate the background of the shortcuts showing any colour, so I have something called "See Thru" which makes the wallpaper background colour transparent.

    Yes, I'm a minimalist.

A friend of mine who worked with Ms. B described her as 'not the sharpest cheese in the fridge.' He also called to taunt me just before he went out on a date with her! Cheeky!
