As per a reader's comments, those of you who might recall that Pope Benedict XVI's car was sold on eBay when he first became Pope, may be amused at this car's progress.





It has never been driven since that winning eBay bid, and in fact, is now being re-auctioned!

1999 Volkswagen Golf, 4-door sedan that once belonged to the

Pope of the Catholic church.

Just months before being elected head of the Catholic Church, this 1999 VW Golf registered to Cardinal Josef Ratzinger (his pre-Pope moniker) was sold to a German man for $10,000 euro.

The new owner, realizing the uniqueness of its history,

decided to sell this VW Golf, then a six-year old used car.

The car was then auctioned on eBay in 2005, when it was purchased by

the Golden Palace

for $244,000.00 (equal to €188,938.88 at the time).

The Golden Palace has put the car up for auction again,

and this time the proceeds will go to

Habitat for Humanity Great Britain

Not bad, not bad.

Even if I do provide some free linkage to that wretched Golden Palace site, which keeps sending streakers to harass the Duchess of Kent at Wimbledon (although you know she must peak).
