Dr. Doofus

What is up with Presidents who, in their last year in office, play the fool?

I remember President Clinton doing similar ridiculous gestures in 2000. Aren't they aware that this just feeds into the incumbent fatigue the American public feel, at the end of an 8-year term (whomsoever's term it is)?

Don't fall for bloggers who just want to make you look like a doofus, Messers President. Oops, too late.

  • Please don't tell me he's trying to do Dr. Evil from Austin Powers! Well, it's nice of him to try and stay "current"...

  • That's EXACTLY what he's trying to do, Ron.

Politico.com's Mark Allen said he had heard he did a mean Dr. Evil impersonation. Bush fell for it, giving the world an absolutely priceless image of buffoonery (I mean, another one).

BTW, I have to update the Ted Kennedy post -- ith immense regret, ecause he has brain cancer.

I mentioned you in the update, Ron, because Kennedy wanted to watch Astaire films in his hospital bed.

Hope they keep his spirits up...

    Cheers,
    Victoria

  • with/because...

By Blogger vbspurs, at Tue May 20, 02:48:00 pm GMT-4

  • "...and with my method of extracting gold from seawater, we can find a BILLION DOLLARS and balance the Federal Budget! Bwahahaha!"

It frightens me to think he may think like that...

Second, good thing he doesn't do Jolson, or I may need to take my eyeballs to a power scrubber, if he covers "Swanee" with the white gloves and... no...no... I just won't go there!

For Ted I recommend "Daddy Long Legs," "The Sky's the Limit", and "Swing Time."

  • Maybe the lame ducks like buffoonery to ease the years of tension. Watchin' the clock, waitin' for the school bell to ring, so you can yell, "yeaaaaahhhh!!!" and run across the White House lawn to a waiting chopper, so he and Cheney can go varmint huntin' near Crawford...

By Blogger Ron, at Tue May 20, 03:14:00 pm GMT-4

  • Oh, yes, Ted? Stay away from "On The Beach."

Could be worse, Ron, could be worse.

He could do his Mussolini impression, or that really good Noel Coward one.

(Heh, actually I heard JFK did a great Noel Coward)

    My choices for Ted are:

    1- Royal Wedding
    2- Top Hat
3- Silk Stockings (bonus: Cyd Cherisse's legs will cheer him up)

I know a little predictable, and not like your awesome choices, but the Senator gives off a very "predictable" kind of vibe in terms of movies. I mean "The Great Debaters"? That sucked.

    Victoria

  • Ron named two of my three favorites! --Though I'd take "Follow the Fleet" among the Rogers pairings.

By Blogger JSU, at Tue May 20, 06:03:00 pm GMT-4

  • Maybe Silk Stockings would rekindle Cold War memories for Ted, with Peter Lorre being a Russian commissar and all(!)... certainly best "leggy" use of Cherisse, even more than "The Band Wagon" ("Dancing in the Dark" being my favorite non-Rogers dance number of Astaire's)

Cyd Cherisse is still married to Tony Martin, and they were married in 1948!

JSU, "Let's Face the Music and Dance" in "Fleet" is my single favorite Fred and Ginger number! (Although, I certainly have at least 4-5 that are right there for me!) Notice that once the dance starts -- no smiling. The most Deco of many such dances...

  • Oh and thank you very much Victoria for remembering my Astaire love...it's touching to not be forgotten...

By Blogger Ron, at Tue May 20, 07:09:00 pm GMT-4

  • Ron, I'm a bad friend because I'm indolent and erratic, but you are in my heart always. Some of your quips have stayed with me forever. :)

JSU, check out the Primary thread on Althouse, if you please...

    Cheers,

  • Did you see John McCain's crew was in town for Cuban independence day and they stopped to eat at Cafe Versailles. I thought of you.

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! TELL ME THAT ISN'T TRUE.

Oh wow, how can I have missed that Ruth Anne???

I do have a cold, so it would've prevented me anyway, but still. :(

    I miss you...you know what I mean.

    Cheers,

  • He did the "Dr. Evil" thing again today at the Air Force graduation ceremony. Albeit, he did it at the request of one of the graduates...

He also "fist pounded" another graduate.
