Jean-Charles Gets Justice

A jury rejected the official Police account of the sad mistaken killing of a Brazilian man, Jean-Charles de Menezes, during the aftermath of the 7/7 London bombings.

I'm glad.

That was a senseless death, albeit it is typical of Western society to lay the onus of guilt, and direct the totality of their hatred not to the fiends who bombed British citizens, but on the coppers who were trying their best to protect them. What can you do. That's the great sadness of our culture today.

I do have one quibble about this poster in his honour though.

Because so many Brazilian sports stars are black, the world seems to think that all of Brazil is of African descent. The actual percentage according to the last census is 67% caucasians, and the rest a hodge-podge of blacks, and indigenous Brazilians.

When I first saw this poster, I thought, wow, that looks a lot like Barack Obama!

Here is the real Jean-Charles, wearing his sweet Diesel t-shirt, looking happy to be living in the UK.

May he find peace today.

John McCain Suspends Campaign

BREAKING NEWS: John McCain has suspended his campaign starting tomorrow morning, and has issued a challenge to Senator Obama suggesting he do the same.

The challenge is that both of them should go back to Washington and try to form a bipartisan solution to the financial wranglings on Capital Hill. Clearly, the Arizonan Senator implies, that this $700 Billion bailout will have trouble passing through Congress, due to both Democrats and Republicans not wanting to be the ones to endorse it first.

Furthermore, the debate at Washington University at Mississippi should be suspended, he says.

This is a very big story. The ball is in Senator Obama's camp.

UPDATE: Fox News broke the story. MSNBC hasn't even gotten to it, and after the merest announcement from CNN, they are talking about PETA's urging Ben & Jerry to use mother's milk instead of cow milk, in their ice cream.

UPDATE: This wasn't a whammy out of no where for Senator Obama. Senator McCain gave him a courtesy phone call about this bombshell, before he made his public announcement. They are reading Team Obama's email to Fox News about this on Major Garrett's Blackberry. Now, Obama is saying that he came up with the idea first. This is curious. Developing...

UPDATE: Drudge's massive headline. Wonder what he would've done in 1945 when we won the war?

ADDED: Ironically, Senator Obama also suspended his campaign once. But it was a parody.
