US Under Martial Law Starting October 1st!!

I thought I had heard every conspiracy theory out there, but with the Trig Palin rumours excepted, this one is the doofiest I've heard in a while.

The Army Times announced this today:

The 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team has spent 35 of the last 60 months in Iraq patrolling in full battle rattle, helping restore essential services and escorting supply convoys.

Now they’re training for the same mission — with a twist — at home.

Beginning Oct. 1 for 12 months, the 1st BCT will be under the day-to-day control of U.S. Army North, the Army service component of Northern Command, as an on-call federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks.

It is not the first time an active-duty unit has been tapped to help at home. In August 2005, for example, when Hurricane Katrina unleashed hell in Mississippi and Louisiana, several active-duty units were pulled from various posts and mobilized to those areas.

And from this, rumours have flown that George Bush will institute Martial Law on October 1st, even going so far as to "suspend" the Presidential Elections on November 4th.

Tell me, when this date passes, nothing happens, and the Election is held as scheduled, do we get to laugh in their faces?

Or can I start already?

The conspiracy theorist pathology of Leftists today is very troubling, not the least of which it is because they are the dominant faction enabled by Senator Obama's win over Senator Clinton.

Every kook, screeching feminist, rabid journalist and screed-writing activist is out there spreading like an enormous growth on the body politic. They have become almost unelectable because of it.

If you have to fear for something, fear for that.

  • It was only a matter of time. All the other scare tactics they wheeled out before the last election - that there would be a draft the day after Bush was inaugurated for his second term, for example - have been recycled this season, so why not this one too?

  • Gee this is identical to what I saw bandied about in the closing days of the Clinton administration (you know, the "He'll never leave office voluntarily" crowd.)

I'd also say you are way off base in your 'dominant faction' assessment. I know dozens of Obama supporters and I doubt if any of them actually believe that Bush is planning to suspend the Constitution for the purpose of remaining in office indefinitely.
