Obama's Kenyan Family

I don't need to bring up the details of Senator Barack Obama's aunt being found living in squalour in South Boston, an illegal immigrant and publicly subsidised to boot, so let me just show you a family photo with the Senator, and his Kenyan family in happier times.

His left hand rests on Kezia Obama, his father's first wife (his father became a bigamist when he married Ann Dunham, the Senator's mother). She lives on a council estate (inner city public housing) in the UK. His half-brother Bernard lives nearby, in Bracknell.

The chap next to him is his brother, Malik Obama, who is seen here in his modest shop in eastern Kenya. He is holding up a photo of the Senator in traditional Muslim garb, although the latter is a practising Christian.

That aunt in South Boston, mentioned so lovingly in Barack Obama's famed autobiography as "Aunti Zeituni", has had her generous contributions to her nephew's campaign sent back. They amounted to $260. Considering she is on public assistance, I'm sure she could use it...

This handsome, dignified young man who is the spitting image of him, is Senator Obama's half-brother George.

He lives in utter poverty in a Nairobi slum. His yearly earnings are a whole U$12. I remember seeing his life story on CNN, and being aghast at just how much he admires his brother, reads his book for inspiration, and yet feels no bitterness towards him for not reaching out to help him. George looks like the type who might be too proud to accept the help, but can't Obama at least TRY?

I mean, my God, even I sponsored a South American kid from one those Sally Struthers-like programmes a few years ago. Why can't Senator Obama help his little brother out?

Look, this is the point of my blogpost: not everyone can be like Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who tried to help out her destitute relatives, the two Edie Beales, living in a ramshackle stately Easthampton home, Grey Gardens.

God knows I myself may have relatives who are in queer street, and it doesn't speak badly about me.

But Senator Obama makes a POINT of saying we are our brother's keeper. We should "spread the wealth". We don't need to be "selfish" with our money. It seems to me that he likes to lecture people on what to do, like learning Spanish, without any effort in doing so himself.

Here's a piece of advice, Senator Obama:

Practise what you preach, if you be the preachy type. If not, you shall be called a hypocrite.

IN THE COMMENTS: Jim sends Senator Barack Obama a blistering reproof.

It's not just that he said that we should be our brother's keeper...He said he was his brother's keeper at the Warren Forum...So he's not just a hypocrite, he's a flat out liar.

And it doesn't even have to be charity. For heaven's sake, my wife and I send gifts to each of the members of family (parents, sisters, nephews and nieces) on birthdays and at Christmas. Just by remembering his brother on his birthday, he could double his brother's annual income. That he doesn't even deign to do this much speaks volumes about the man's character...or more precisely, his lack thereof.
