She Looked Like She Needed A Good Spankin'

RIP Bettie Page.

She lived to the ripe-old age of 85, dying of pneumonia in Los Angeles on Thursday. But if you've ever seen Bettie's photos from the '50s, you know she was no stranger to drafts.

Here is dear old Bettie, being an unimaginably sultry seductress and stuff, at least for the standards of that decade. Hey, I like Dita von Teese, but this is the burlesque gold standard right here.

ADDED: Oh gosh. Van Johnson, that red-haired All-American actor, died on Thursday too. He was one of Lucille Ball's best friends, who once joked they were too similar to fall in love. RIP.

  • A little before my time. She did cut a good figure though. Her story is history (they say), but she seemed troubled. I'm glad she found some peace at last. RIP

  • A little before all our times, I fancy, Chickenlittle!

But I think a lot of us remember her due to the recent biopic about her. I remember Ron mentioning that he saw it. :)

What was it about the black-haired, blue-eyed women back then? They all had that wooden Black Dahlia look about them.

    Cheers,
    Victoria

  • "But I think a lot of us remember her due to the recent biopic about her."

Missed it. Which one? There are two on Netflix: "Dark Angel" and "Girl in the Leopard Print Bikini".

What was it about the black-haired, blue-eyed women back then?

I wonder if she inspired the 1977 hit "Black Betty"?

Personally, I have more of a hard spot for the Marilyn Monroe types.

  • In lieu of Ron answering:

    "The Notorious Bettie Page"

Starring the usually blond Gretchen Mol! That should make your spot hard. ;)

P.S.: Actually, I didn't care for the film. It was a little boring.

    Cheers,
    Victoria

  • Anticipatory commenting! The hot new trend done first on Sundries!

I also have a Bettie Post, with similar Teaserama video!

I've been reading my (signed!) Bettie bio today with sadness...

Her friend/protector/artist Dave Stevens died unexpectedly earlier this year, and I wondered how Bettie would get along. I found out that Dave got her some Disney folks to help a bit as well...

The film was dull because Gretchen Mol isn't very good I think. She was the drag in "Rounders" as well.

    Word Verification Word: "Sheess"

  • BTW, Hef screened "Notorious BP" for Bettie at The Mansion, the last time he saw her...She didn't like being called "Notorious"!

  • Here you go...as kinky as Bettie gets, in that '50's way. With music from The Cramps!
