An Unamplified Voice Hits The Kindle!

Sundries' dear friend, An Unamplified Voice, the premier opera blog currently out there, written by none other than JSU, has just joined the ranks of those offered on the Amazon Kindle.

It goes without saying that I already did, though a little bird tells me that perhaps I am not the first. You gotta know people are intrigued!

That makes two blogs that I currently subscribe to -- joining the stately Instapundit in my daily queue (I have the WSJ, as my only newspaper). It's enough for now, as I cut back dramatically.

At my height, I was a paying subscriber to well over 15 newspapers, and blogs; a tally needed because of the crazy, hectic days leading up to the Presidential Election. The free 14-trial is a fantastic way to savour each and every blog out there, giving the Kindle the edge over other similar products by far.

Just the fact that it liberates one from the sometimes crazy amounts of time spent in front of a computer, is all the reason you need to get that e-tschoke.

Jossip Goes After Piper

I used to like Jossip, and not even as a kind of dirty secret, either. David Hauslaib's site was a good place for insider information, but not in a Perez Hilton vein. It was usually well-written, and offered surprising news you would read tomorrow, today.

I enjoyed it so much, I actually subscribed to their Kindle feed. No longer, as of a few minutes ago. This post below written by "Cord" is why: their accelerated Palin Derangement Syndrome.

"Har har har! A Fashionista reader claims they can tell that the Louis Vuitton purse Sarah Palin's youngest daughter, Piper, is carrying here is a fake.

This raises two questions:

1. Who's the bigger loser—the person who buys the fake purse or the person who can spot the fake purse from miles away? and 2. DID THESE PEOPLE BUY FAKE SH*T WITH THAT $150,000?!?!?!?!??!"

This photo to the left is the one they ran with the piece. The attached photos of the bag come from the BryanBoy site, which has a fascination with fashion and who posted a more balanced question about the handbag, without tarring and feathering Piper.



The story of the RNC purchasing fancy duds for the middle-class Alaskan Governor is one thing. As sexist and stupid it is to make it trump meatier news last week (like say, investigating the Rashid Khalidi story, yes I'm speaking to you L.A. Times), the news media decided to devote considerable time to Governor Palin's clothing instead.

But you know, she's a politician, and she has got to expect these kinds of stories, no matter how degrading.

I have news for Jossip, though. If you think a 6 year-old child is fair game for your type of commentary, that says a lot about you -- and none of it is good.

"Totally fronting"? SHE's FRIKKIN SIX YEARS OLD! My God, what is wrong with people? Don't even try to pass this off as people not getting your "joke", either, Cord. The tone and tenor of what you say is anything but jokey.

So here's the deal.

We will show Jossip how to comment on a Presidential candidate's children, if warranted at all (which it is usually isn't).

Here are Sasha and Malia Obama with their mother, Michelle, at the Democratic National Convention. I request that you write something about each of these girls in the comments section, and I will highlight the best ones in the front page.

Allow me to comment first:



Their eldest daughter Malia is going to be a knock-out. She has been able to combine the best of both parents' looks, including Barack Obama's facial contours, and Michelle Obama's elongated elegance. Little Sasha is a sweetheart, whose presence eats up the camera in purple, with that charming brooch on her shoulder just like momma. And just as an added bonus, I don't think I've seen a better photo of Mrs. Obama. She looks fantastic.

Well done you two! You have gorgeous girls.

One can write something of importance and be remembered for good works; one can mentor an entire generation of students and take pride in the resultant academic offspring; but nothing compares to the feeling of literally seeing or finding one’s own self in the next generation. Done right, it is a constant, sublime reminder of another way to achieve immortality. Barack and Michelle can each feel proud of their girls, and such parental pride is at once both selfish and selfless: selfish for the reasons above, and selfless for all the time and effort- truly a job well done!

Salman Rushdie's New Book

Out yesterday, 3 June and I have already sent a sample of the first few chapters to my Kindle.



Amazon has a convenient feature which not only allows you to sample books gratis, but it shows you the current Kindle best-sellers on their site, updated hourly.

So far, Rushdie's book is at #52. This despite its very lyrical name:

The Enchantress Of Florence

Catchy.

Here is a synopsis.

Any book which can evoke such a pantheon of historical characters, from Vlad the Impaler to Botticelli, and the Mughal shahs of India, well, I'm there.

I'm still a little concerned about his safety though. A blonde Italian orphan who becomes a military championess of Islam, a Muslim Joan of Arc?

Fortunately, the Ayatollah Khomeini is dead and buried because Mr. Rushdie does tend to sail close to that controversial wind.
