So, I'm Back

My dear friends and varied readers:

I cannot thank you enough for your indulgence this past week, during my self-imposed mini-exile from my beloved Sundries.

Although I am not 100% as yet, life being what it is, I have returned with a less heavy heart, in no large part due to all the magnificent messages of loving warmth you sent me, both publicly and privately.

I am seriously in all your debts. Thank you so much.

But now, let's continue our blogospheric journey together, shall we?

Ooh! Me first!

  • How wonderful it is indeed to have you back, Victoria! This past week has the web has been a drab place...almost makes me just want to watch movies all week! (BTW, if you haven't seen it, I recommend "The Strange Love of Martha Ivers",(1946), Stanwyck, Heflin, and the first film of Kirk Douglas, quite a twisted yarn!)

meanwhile, I've been struggling to raise enough funds to not get evicted! Things are that bad! My own mood has declined precipitously!

    Ron! How I missed you, film-buddy. :)

This past week has the web has been a drab place...

I checked mid-week on Althouse, and perhaps due to finals, her topics were dire that day.

But I heard on that Siskel/Ebert, that it was back to its old, excellent shape, so good news all around, webwise!

almost makes me just want to watch movies all week!

That's primarily what I did this week. Plus reading, obviously.

    More anon. :)

(BTW, if you haven't seen it, I recommend "The Strange Love of Martha Ivers",(1946), Stanwyck, Heflin, and the first film of Kirk Douglas, quite a twisted yarn!)

Don't absolutely hate me, but I'm not a big Stanwyck fan. :((

I know, I know, I know. I shall rot in hell for saying that, since she's so excellent, but what I can do, but tell the truth?

My antipathy started with Stella Dallas, which however, is amazing.

I was told she was excellent in that TV series (Ponderosa?), and certainly she rocked as the matriarch in "Thornbirds".

Still, I've tried and failed in liking Stanwyck.

meanwhile, I've been struggling to raise enough funds to not get evicted!

Oh honey! I'm so sorry. :(

Coincidentally, I am going through a rather similar situation, although mine is self-implosive in nature.

Anyway, you have my deepest sympathies and good wishes. You will be well -- bet on it.

Things are that bad! My own mood has declined precipitously!

Oh no, we must do something about that.

    Bratpack nostalgia review??

    To the BlogMobile!

You Batman, me Robin! I look great in tights.

    Cheers,
    Victoria

  • Even if you don't like Serious Stanwyck, surely you can't object to Ball of Fire or The Lady Eve...

  • Welcome back Miss V!!

    You were indeed missed.

My prayers go to you and yours that everything is proceeding in a positive direction.

  • Looks as though you were missed!

Hmmm ... did I miss the Vickers Show? Hmmm ... yeah, have to confess I did. There are some things which I do daily on the Net, and a visit to the Future MD's "Sundries" is one of 'em!

    Welcome back! :D

  • Ron, I commisserate! I drained my bank account down to $3 and some change: a blown head gasket! Seems the seller made some jury-rigged repairs on it. Nice, huh?

    *sigh*

I figgered I finally had enough to get my BP meds and a tooth pulled, but nooOOOooo! $1200 hard-saved over the months The dirty, rat bast...OH! sorry.

    *sigh*

We'll both weather this, Ron. Hang tough! :D

  • Victoria: Are you going to see the new Andy Garcia labor of love to Havana? I heard on Medved that it was visually gorgeous and he gave it 3 stars [out of 4]. Taking any Cubano amigos with you?

Welcome back! You were missed, Missy.

Not only can I object, but I confess, I've never seen them...

I'm not exactly sure what puts me off -- maybe it's the very thing she's famous, and popular for, with others:

A kind of unvarnished, brassy, Brooklyn demeanour, which at the time, seemed real and authentic, compared to the affected New England socialites like Bette Davis and Katharine Hepburn.

Stanwyck had class, but it was a little rough around the edges.

And I like Myrna Loy and Roz Russell types...

    Cheers,
    Victoria

  • Welcome back Miss V!!

Hey Brother Darryl! I hope you've seen my other "reappearance" on that other locale we share. ;)

That one, however, is not as complete, as the one on my blog.

    You were indeed missed.

Thanks, love. I really appreciate that.

How are you doing up in Cheesehead land?

My prayers go to you and yours that everything is proceeding in a positive direction.

Your prayers must be working, because today was as normal as I get. :)

    Cheers,
    Victoria

  • Looks as though you were missed!

I'm glad I was found at last!

Hmmm ... did I miss the Vickers Show? Hmmm ... yeah, have to confess I did.

    Aww. :)

There are some things which I do daily on the Net, and a visit to the Future MD's "Sundries" is one of 'em!

Bless your Irish little heart, Benning. Even if you're Pennsylvania Dutch.

    Welcome back! :D

    Mwah! Thanks. :)

    Cheers,

    Oh honey, this sounds terrible.

One time, at band camp, I owned a Ford, and it nickle-and-dimed me to death -- almost.

Don't throw good money after bad, if you can at all help it, Benning. It's just not worth it.

I'm guessing the lemon laws didn't cover this repair?

    *sigh*

I figgered I finally had enough to get my BP meds and a tooth pulled, but nooOOOooo! $1200 hard-saved over the months The dirty, rat bast...OH! sorry.

You're entitled to be angry. Car troubles, and tooth troubles...well, the only thing lacking in this trifecta of misery is woman troubles.

Let's hope you are spared that at least.

    *sigh*

We'll both weather this, Ron. Hang tough! :D

Hang in there, my two lads.

I may be flippant in tone, but believe me, I am keeping you in my thoughts tomorrow at church.

    Cheers,
    Victoria

Geez, I should bottle Sundries, and sell it over-the-counter!

Anyone know of a good cartel?

    Hola Jose!

Hey, what was the deal on Friday night?

Were you taking your caja china out for an early spin, or was South Florida surrounded by the smell of burning Everglades?

Dios mio. We're not that close to New Smyrna beach.

    Cheers,
    Victoria

  • Welcome back!

Oye, como va. Mi lindo, bueno pa' gozar, mu...oops, wait, I don't even like Santana.

I think I'll just say "hey Charlie!!" and leave it at that. ;)

    Cheers,
    Victoria

  • Victoria: Are you going to see the new Andy Garcia labor of love to Havana?

    Hey Ruth Anne!

Indeed, I watched it on opening night, two Fridays ago.

I have a full blogpost review planned, but I fear The Lost City will be out of the screens, by the time of posting...sigh.

    Stay tuned though! :)

I heard on Medved that it was visually gorgeous and he gave it 3 stars [out of 4].

I can imagine. I didn't see what Roeper (idiot) or Ebert (slightly better) said about it, but some people just didn't get it.

Don't even REMIND me of that enormous jerk who reviewed it, via the Village Voice.

Ugh, my blood pressure rises when I think of that prissy tone of "boohoo, the rich white folk in Cuba suffered".

    Yuck.

Taking any Cubano amigos with you?

I went alone, since my Chilean chum isn't partial to Cuban-Americans (a grave fault, in my eyes, but nobody's perfect...).

But I did something very special, nonetheless. Surprises are worth waiting for!

Welcome back! You were missed, Missy.

    Thanks, Ruth Anne.

I missed you, and your down-to-earth, lawyerly, but free spirited banter a lot too.

Plus, you owe me five bucks. Pony up.

    Cheers,
    Victoria

How you figure? Why do I owe you a fin? Where shall I send it? [I'm no welcher!]
