Before And After

See if you can spot what is wrong with the first photograph of a South Florida Blockbuster shop's display of the Paul Greengrass film, United 93...

BEFORE

AFTER

...and what is missing later that weekend.

Can you guess what happened?

  • sigh...they checked out the Michael Moore 'film' and left Flight 93 behind...

  • Oooooo! I know! I bet some English girl came in and raised a ruckus about Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" being with 100 feet of the other 9/11 films(like "Flight 93")--thereby violating a (fictitious) restraining order that you cited to the manager. Not being a lawyer, and being quite scared at that point, he immediately re-arranged the shelves. And vowed to be your servant for life. As if you would have a worm like him as your submissive!

My account may be embellished somewhat...

    Take heart, my dear Ron.

It's closer to what Darrell posted, and which I'll respond to, below.

    So far, so good.

thereby violating a (fictitious) restraining order that you cited to the manager.

My wits weren't as keen as this.

However, a friend and I did mention to the store manager on duty, that our concerns were not political, but rather about the appropriateness of this insensitive juxtapositioning, especially so near the 5th anniversary.

If they had been political, we just would have suggested they trot out FahrenHYPE 9/11, which was the point-counterpoint documentary, as rebuttal to Michael Moore's film.

Clearly, that would've been inappropriate too -- and it doesn't take an UN diplomat, to notice that.

Just a sensitive, caring person, which allegedly people who hold views similar to Michael Moore, deem themselves to have.

Not being a lawyer, and being quite scared at that point, he immediately re-arranged the shelves.

Actually, it took the power of a very nervous Head of Marketting, and a rather pointed remark about Blockbuster's name being mud on blogosphere, if they did not rethink this move.

He graciously complied, with sincere apologies, citing that it was done in all innocence by the store manager.

    Hmm.

And vowed to be your servant for life. As if you would have a worm like him as your submissive!

    This part is right, though.

My account may be embellished somewhat...

What! On Blogosphere there are no embellishments, simply editorial commentating.

  • BTW, there were three other stores that I went to, where this DVD had been put next to United 93.

The policy to have them removed Blockbuster assured us, included all of them around the US of the good A.

    It's almost like IRC, baby!

But now, alas, Cinders is putting away her pumpkin, and going to bed.

If anyone sees Ron, my coachman, tell him to give the horses an extra bale of hay, and flirt with me in the morning. ;)
