Door Number 3

Dan Riehl echoes what all of us were thinking about George HW Bush's joke below.

"I suspect only a very old man can get away with saying this about an obvious feminist."

President Bush (who thankfully looks much more hale and hearty than he did at the recent Inauguration, seen visibly leaning on his cane due to hip problems) told an amazed audience of his encounter with what all of us know is one of those zombified, vampirical, Golemish, pro-choice protestors.

As luck would have it, I think I have tracked down some photographs no doubt showing the very woman "41" must've seen!

But my eyes are not what they used to be, so I am enlisting the help of all Sundries readers. Tell me who you think is the lady President Bush clearly saw during that fateful encounter.

VOTE NOW. Was it...?

(A)

(B)

(C)

Or...

(EXTRA SPECIAL CHOICE)

Oh my, someone needs a tummy tuck.

Do people like this, expect to be taken seriously.

Heh. I thought most men would notice something north of that first.

Do people like this, expect to be taken seriously.

I dunno. I've asked myself that question a dozen times at least.

Right now, the answers I can give you ring a little hollow, because clearly their collective image was not enough to put off Americans when they rewarded their candidate and his movement by voting him into power.

This is the one thing I cannot accept about Barack Obama's win -- that these people's lunatic antics were somehow given credence and triumphed.

Media cannot understand that this aspect plays an inordinate role in people's distaste with his candidacy, and has ZERO to do with his race (the only approved reason that people are given for not liking him).

I may even take Obama. I cannot take Code Pink and the Truthers. Ever.

    Cheers,
    Victoria

  • When I say I pay attention to detail, I'm not kidding.

Do you remember that bearded, tattooed oaf, the male equivalent of those females above -- that wore a "Sarah Palin is a c**t" t-shirt?

I recall that Chickenlittle mentioned the Cinelli hat he was wearing, and I noticed he had keys to a Volkswagen.

Check out the "friend" of the Mi Cuerpo, Mi Decision woman above.

Keys to Volkswagen on her keyring.

They are just so cliché, these people.

    Cheers,
    Victoria

I'm a older woman. Public nudity is pretty much a big yawn to me.

I think both statements are a stretch. Pro choice IMO, is a single issue not relating to politics but to individual personal perspective. Me, I am conservative and pro-choice. I don't get any connection to race at all. None of the people in the photos are making a point about suppporting BO that I can see. (judging by their signs)

I woman in my town makes an issue each spring about female nudity and rides her bike everywhere shirtless. Whatever useful statement she thought she was making was lost years ago. She doesn't seem to get that no one actually cares, and the police never arrest her, which is her goal. I'm sure she thinks she is making a relevant point, like the topless protesters in the photo, but the point is lost as the nudity is a distraction. I'd feel the same if these protesters were 20 and pert. One thing has nothing to do with the other, and IMO, minimizes their protest. Kind of like shooting oneself in the foot.

  • Thanks for the comment, and clarification, Anon.

I have to say that the various Anons we have are confusing me (and perhaps some readers, as evidenced by a recent comment). I may have to close that loophole in future.

As everyone knows, I run a tight ship here, and that ability I gave some readers who may not want to sign in with their IDs (originally so that people like Madcynic could comment) I always viewed as one of my less strict rules. It made me feel happy to be able to include even those outside of the blogosphere.

We'll see. At least you and others are forewarned.

    Cheers,
    Victoria

    I vote for (A) because:

All four represent well chosen feminist phenotypes, with all species more or less resembling one of the four.

    (A) is the code pink grandma--she probably has a pussy-whipped older man backing her--if she hasn't killed him off already. She needs a man.

    (B) Is the HIP-positive young thang--btw--is that an M or an F standing next to her? She wouldn't go near GWB. I wonder if she's henna down under too.

    (C) Rabid Pink. She's the one we love to hate because we think she should be smarter than that.

    (D) These ladies, based solely on their truck, are too butch to care about harassing a president--they just care about exposing themselves.

@Victoria haven't been to follow Sundries much this week--away on business.

I did not know that. I drive a Prius because driving one makes the most sense to me.

Speaking of trampling over one's own point....the woman who rides her bike topless in my town does so while wearing a helmet. She completely misses the irony that if she really wanted to be a maverick she'd violate the helmet law as well. The helmet wearing can't be a safety issue as all I can think of when I see her and all that skin, is what a bad case of road rash she'd have if she ever fell off.

    I'm probably too pragmatic.

God, Victoria, you're turning me on with that strict, schoolmarmish tone. So I already know you're very smart; we went to the same university; we have 98% the same opinions and attitudes; we have the same nationality, at least in part...

    You're hot.

  • You know, 'ugly' is itself a sexist term though.

You never hear anyone going on about the 'ugliest man,' do you?

And who do you associate with the word, 'ugly?' Almost always a female. Think about it, when I read to my kids (I read them a wide variety of bedtime stories) there are always the 'ugly' stepsister, the 'ugly' spinster, the 'ugly' witch, but invariably it is a female, and invariably their outer ugliness is matched on the inside.

By Blogger Eli Blake, at Thu Jan 29, 07:34:00 pm GMT-5

  • And yeah, I know-- there is one notable 'ugly' male in children's stories-- the Ugly Duckling. But he is not ugly on the inside and in the end he turns out to not be ugly on the outside either.

Have you ever heard of UMOC contest at MIT? --UMOC stands for Ugliest Man on Campus. One year a woman ran--and won!

  • I think the world would be better if we (women) were allowed to be homely without repercussion. You know... the old idea that our brilliant personalities will shine through and make us beautiful even when we aren't.

The anger, though... that makes anyone ugly.

OT, but the modern German word for "ugly" is häßlich, and originally derived from the concept: "full of hate".
