Three Words

Don't. Buy. Dell.

As you can imagine, my absence is partly due to my computer's Hard Drive being fried.

I was completely happy with the fact that I had installed that PSU myself a while ago, but I confess, though I have tried every hint in the book: trying to boot it up with a disk, and trying Safe Mode. It just does not want to work. Chkdsk stops midway in stage 2.

I am therefore in your blogging debt.

That desktop computer was my last one working, seeing as how my laptop is fried too.

I refuse to take it back to the sillies who charged me a fortune to install a new Hard Drive only last year (conveniently now OVER the warranty), so I have to hunt around to see who can fix it, and cheaply.

This may take a while, guys, so please make yourselves at home on the blog. At least, I have the Kindle's web browser, so I can read Sundries that way, even if I can't email.

Grumble. Grumble. Harumph.

Ah well, such is life, right?

That PSU

Congratulate me!

The world's least enthusiastic and knowledgeable DIYer, just changed the PSU in her own computer. This after said person had to get the tool kit from her car, as she had no idea about screwdriver shapes.



I just wanted to post this tonight, in case I disappear, in which case you know it didn't work out. So far, so good though. Yay.

PSU Blues And Greens

So it seems my computer's PSU is conking out on me, as suspected this past year. If I suspected, why didn't I replace it earlier, you might be asking yourselves.

Well, I ask that too, because I did request the computer nerds who "fixed" my desktop earlier this year, to check out the fan inside the PSU -- at least I was in the general vicinity...

The part will take a while to arrive, and until then, I will blog sporadically.

Of course, when the actual part arrives, I will have to go to said geeks again and ask them to install it for me. Having gotten up the courage to peek inside my computer, by yanking off the cover, I took a look at that warren of multi-coloured fibre wotsits inside, and I realised the task may be easy, but I am simply not game enough to run the risk of electrocution.

And speaking of being technologically-challenged, have you seen this new clock called Chromochrome?



No. Seriously. It's a clock.

Hoping To God

My computer will not conk out on me again.

Just when I had "solved" the problem, I decided to do a registry cleanup for New Year, and I must've deleted some important configuation. (No, I didn't back it up). It just shuts down on me, even after installing Speedfan. I have let it rest all these hours.

I want to avoid using public computers to compose my quirky posts, since as you can imagine, my forthcoming post on my naked neighbours might have me hauled out to the paddy wagon.

(Yes, you read right. Naked neighbours)

Anyhoo, please forgive the delay in posting this Monday. I'll catch you all tomorrow, God willing.

P.S.: A guy was selling these on the street, so I bought a pair.



I guess my neighbours have stories too.

Computer Found

A smallish update:

I am composing this on a (relatively newish) desktop I had secreted away in my closet, after deciding to use my laptop all of the time. It is saving me, as not having the internet handy and having to use Kinko's, and the like is an utter pain. Fortunately, my Kindle has Basic Web so I was more or less able to follow the juicy Blagojevich scandal, but I refuse to check my email there due to security concerns.

So the good news is, so far, so good. I'll try to come back by week's end. Thanks for your patience, Sundries readers!

Sticky Computer

Guys, I must apologies for having left you with a dangling promise. I figured out this lead up to Christmas will be impossible for me to continue blogging daily.

When I went to boot up my laptop this morning, though, it gave me a sinister black screen message "Unable to find operating system". I will try to see what I can do -- in the meantime, I am accessing the blog publicly and do not feel at leisure to post, if you get my meaning. Not much I can do until this solved. Just please, hang in there! I will be back.

Never Ever Try To "Fix" Your Mouse

As I just tried to.

I have Apple's Mighty Mouse, which hasn't given me a second's trouble until tonight.

That's when I got the bright idea of trying to pry it open, to see if I could get the scroll thingie, to work again.

Bad move, Vic.

Now, it won't close tight, and consequently, it is practically useless, and makes navigating the web almost an impossibility.

I will have to round up my Dell mouse, until I can get another Mighty Mouse one, though I don't know where I put it...





This monumentally blows chunks, because I am therefore unable to compose my Rio Carnival 2007 post tonight.

I'll try to sort this out by tomorrow. Forgive me!
