Sweet Caroline

Tell me, why did my beloved Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg decide to go as Pippi Longstocking to the Inauguration?

Oy-chhh, come on Caroline. It's not 1960 anymore.

"Come Here, Fool"

This is a bit of an inside joke about my sallies into Presidential erotica on Althouse, Tuesday, after being requested to. I am too pudique to post what I wrote on Sundries, but you can read my efforts here. Blush.

I think this photograph is outstanding, though. They both look great.

P.S.: Unlike a lot of people, I thought Michelle Obama's Inauguration dress worked for her. It's true that the colour was not easy to pull off. Amanda Carpenter sniffed:

If that particular hue becomes a crayola crayon, I think it should be named "sour sunshine."

Heh. Quite. It also looked like an after-five tea gown, than a noon-time one.

But I'll give our new First Lady this: she looked far more appropriate in her attire than Dr. Jill Biden's hotcha-momma Sophie Tucker knee-high boots, and red coat.

Carpenter also referenced BaBa WaWa's nearly unbelievable remark about First Lady frocks.

Of course, this doesn't matter at all in the big picture. The only one I've heard say it should even be discussed is Barbara Walters, who said on The View, the other day, "I think you can tell what the Administration is going to be like by what the First Lady wears."

I wouldn't go that far, but it is fun for political women to talk political fashion.

Not only wouldn't I go that far, but if this remark is true, it tears what little shred of good opinion I had about Barbara Walter's last remaining braincells.

Look, I can talk about fashion until the Firedoglake bloggers come home disappointed they didn't get into the viewing stands, but there is such a thing as being too vapid. Walters just crossed the line between insightful commentary and kaffeeklatsch nonsense.

ADDENDUM: Stop the presses. I just got a load of Michelle Obama's shoes, which I had originally thought were black court shoes. It seems that they are an unbecoming shade of seafoam green.

God, that interrupts the previous good visual I had of her.

But in better news, I think this photo is remarkable, and so sweet to see the girls standing proudly alongside their parents.

Even the unnatural length of Obama's Brooks Bros trousers doesn't distract from the natural beauty of the moment.

Those Dapper Florentines

Since many commenters liked my Sartorialist blogpost a week ago, I return with three of my favourite snaps in that hallowed blog.

Florence is cold and rainy in January, but that never stopped Florentines from looking FABU anyway. Today, the men get their fair share of attention.

CHAP ON BIKE IN BLUE

I rarely wear jeans, though I have these Diesels that really flatter my complexion, but this man is wearing his with a pitch perfect attention to colour and fabric.

I'm almost sure that gorgeous coat is a Barbour jacket, which I used to favour in the UK.

It's possibly the Eksdale, which costs a pretty penny in any country. But that's precisely why it works. This fashion snap is almost impossible to imagine being pulled off with such élan in any country but Italy.

Incidentally, this post was entitled "Spinning Class". Heh.

OH THAT LEATHER KILLS ME

I have a confession to make. I adore, simply adore Italian leather. For years I have dreamt of having precisely the colour gloves worn by this gentleman, but only for an old-fashioned messenger bag, the kind that was toted around by Dag Hammarskjöld and such.

Incidentally, these gloves work for him overall, but if you want to be picky about it, it's overkill with the boots and the bulky pea-green, Martha Stewart K-Mart line scarf.

The Sartorialist called this series of photos "the finishing touch", since each of them uses a defining article of clothing to complete the look.

Please note that one should never wear red, ever, anywhere, on one's person when already wearing burgundy. It's a big fashion no-no, and I'm glad his commenters picked up on it.

But perhaps it's the stove-pipe pants, which are in fashion at the moment, or the shininess of the shoes (I love a man with unscuffed lace-ups) but these peek-a-boo socks work.

The true sign of a perfectionist is wearing something no one or few will see. This is why Erich von Stroheim spent a fortune on monogrammed, silken underpants for extras playing Austro-Hungarian officers, in one of his films.

Don't do it for anyone but yourself, and you will feel immensely rewarded.

Tigerlady Pastels

I took a glance at one of my favourite sites, the Sartorialist, just now and found this photograph kicking off 2009.

Magnifique and the comments as ever, spot on.

- She looks really fab in those pastels, not an easy colour to pull off...I'm also in love with her earrings...Great bag too, makes the look a bit more fierce ...

- Parisian flawless dressing. Love it, so elegant and thoughtful.

- does it bother anyone else when people don't remove the labels from their scarves??

- The pinky ring... J'adore!

- It's a very pretty look, but this woman doesn't project a sweet, feminine image and I'd have liked to see her add an element that reflects her seeming ballsy confidence. Perhaps the sunglasses were meant to do that, but right now round glasses are too trendy to be meaningful. Or could be she thought that the classic cut of her clothes--and the structured bag (Choo?)--were enough to offset the girlishness of the pink. To my eye, at least, the pink's in charge here. She needs a signal of "good bitch playing girly girl" to really make this work for her. Great shot, though. And despite the seeming negativity of my comments (frankly, I'm seeing myself in her) I give her props for capturing my attention.

I especially like the last commentary, and don't you agree that this woman is anything but a soft feminine type? In fact, I disagree with that commenter who implied she was Parisian (well, they said Parisian dressing, which could mean a foreigner too).

She looks American, of Italian extraction or from Italy itself, rather than a proper Parisienne.

She's too purposeful, yes, too "fierce": a businesswoman closing on a million dollar deal or making sure her caterer has gotten those special truffles. Her pose says "don't mess with me" rather than the suggested blues and pinks of her outfit which seeks to baby her -- and therefore her viewers -- into helplessness.

Incidentally, though physically they have nothing in common, this is how my mother looks, down to the Chloës shielding her eyes. It's uncanny.

The part of the photograph that really intrigues me is the olive tan oversized shoulder bag just behind her. I would kill to know what that is.

Confessions Of A Shop-A-Holic

So I may not smoke, but I more than make up for it by shopping. Namely, I love watches and handbags. I think I have all of 6 pairs of shoes, not including trainers, but I simply cannot live without a hundred-fold of the others.

This is my latest quest for the New Year. The "Versace Logo Plate Shopper".

You like?

Before I scare tell you the price, here is what it offers in the way of quality:

* Flap with magnetic closure.
* Braided double handles.
* Signature 'Greek Key' pattern.
* Dimensions: 15"W x 12 1/4"H x 6"D.
* Calf leather.
* Made in Italy.

Make a mental calculation of what you would be willing to pay for this bag, and now click here for the price.

Deal, or no deal?

Incidentally, I've been thinking about Obama's new administration nickname, and I think that's what he should call it.

And speaking of successful brothers whose style I admire, here is Samuel L. Jackson in the Miller bomb, "The Spirit".

I want everything from the eight-shooter, to the raccoon makeup and pelts.

IN THE COMMENTS: Chickenlittle perceives a Pompeiian pattern to the bag. Good eye!

Ron tugs at my heartstrings, saying that he eats the cost of this hangbag in food per year.

And JSU mentions Martha Stewart's media oops when she entered the Courthouse wearing that enormous Birkin bag -- a bag that was actually my Holy Grail for many years.

Now it's the Hermès HAC (Haut à Courrois), which was the original Birkin bag. It was deemed too uhh, large, for most women at 50 cm, which you can spy here: Katie Holmes toting hers. Please note that Katie is about 10 feet tall, so if it makes her look stupid, God only knows how I will look wearing it.

Hoping To God

My computer will not conk out on me again.

Just when I had "solved" the problem, I decided to do a registry cleanup for New Year, and I must've deleted some important configuation. (No, I didn't back it up). It just shuts down on me, even after installing Speedfan. I have let it rest all these hours.

I want to avoid using public computers to compose my quirky posts, since as you can imagine, my forthcoming post on my naked neighbours might have me hauled out to the paddy wagon.

(Yes, you read right. Naked neighbours)

Anyhoo, please forgive the delay in posting this Monday. I'll catch you all tomorrow, God willing.

P.S.: A guy was selling these on the street, so I bought a pair.

I guess my neighbours have stories too.

Yes, that's a man with man-breast flaps on his wrap-around "kimono". Or at least, I think that's a man. I found this whilst looking at an Althouse post about Jane Hamsher. Good times.

Saturno

Two photos to tie you guys over, until the mad-rush that is Christmas is over!

You might remember Pope Benedict two years ago, wearing a red bonnet lined with white fur that had him looking uncannily like our "Father Christmas".

(Instead of a cap with a fuzzy tassle, our version wears a pointy hood, although the more Americanised version is taking over)

Well, our beloved Pope continues to amuse, whilst looking amused.

They call this one "Saturno", and don't you think it is well-named? It does look like one of the rings of Saturn plopped down on the infallible noggin.

Incidentally, the Pope has brown eyes, which are quite common in Bavaria, yet this photo makes them look almost caramelly green. I hope he doesn't have cataracts.

Yes, Pope Benedict's face is one of the gentlest faces I have ever seen on any person, male or female. He's so darling.

When Feminazis Attack

Seriously, people, has Germaine Greer nothing better to do than to deconstruct Michelle Obama's Grant Park dress? It's of such amusement to me, akin to Gloria Steinem weighing in on Sarah Palin's jeans, that I have decided to post on it.

First, this is what the renowned Aussie feminist had to say in the Grauniad:

If Michelle Obama's such a great dresser, what was she doing in this red butcher's apron?

The one sour note to resound through the jubilation at the election of Barack Obama was an undercurrent of fear and loathing of the dress Michelle Obama wore on election night. Most newspapers were too high-minded to refer to it, but reaction trickled through the internet and surfaced in USA Today, where a poll revealed that twice as many people hated the gown as thought it irrelevant or OK: "It looked as if someone out trick-or-treating has thrown a can of red paint on her." It was dubbed "firework fashion", "definitely a lava-lamp look with a volcanic nod to her husband's Hawaii". "It looked like it was made from velvet, satin, Spandex and Elmo muppet fur!" One blogger complained that she could hardly listen to Obama's speech "for fear of that dress"; another accused its Cuban-American designer of duping his hapless client into wrapping herself in the Cuban revolutionary flag.

Elmo muppet fur! I mean, where do you start?

First off, that "one sour note" probably says it all. There were about 57 million Americans that were hardly jubilant on November 4, but I suppose they don't count for Greer and Co.

Secondly, "most newspapers were too high-minded" to mention the dress? Uh, no. Most newspapers are not fashionista rags who attempt to double as legitimate news reporting, like Vogue and even Vanity Fair. Mentioning this dress alongside an historic election would've struck a strange note, not a sour one. Their coverage is not a question of being high-minded, though, so much as hidebound.

Thirdly, most newspapers have given the Obamas fawning coverage. Not just fair coverage, mind you, but lickspittle, bottom-sniffing, botty-wiping, i-love-you-mannnn! coverage.

The stain that was mainstream media coverage of the Obama candidacy in 2008 will go down as one of the great travesties of our time (it'll come back to bite them, as assuredly as why they did it -- because media felt complicit in not fully investigating the claims made by President Bush ahead of his Iraq venture. This was payback).

It's almost inconceivable that the Grey Ladies would've said the least negative thing about the Obamas at the moment of their triumph, let alone mentioning the world-wide giggles about Michelle Obama's dress.

Here I have to confess yet again that I do not see what the whole fuss is about. As I mentioned, the dress didn't make an impression on me, in real-time.

It would be too convenient of me to now claim that I find the dress insufferably bad. In truth, now that I have had a chance to look at it properly, it doesn't look terribly smart, and the design is OTT, but I am smirkful that one blogger complained she couldn't pay attention to President-Elect Obama's speech for thinking about the monstrosity wrapped around his wife's bod. Come on, really?

Can you imagine if live-blogging had existed in 1961?

"Oh, that's a great line, "Ask not what your country can do for you" O.M.G! What is Jackie Kennedy wearing?! Is that a poodle on her hands! That's not a muff, that's a chinese dinner gone Pete Tong!"

Of course, I myself have never shied away from making snarky comments about the way women dress. But then, I'm not a legendary feminist writer opposed to reducing women to frills and frippery like fashion commentary.

Greer didn't just skewer the mother. She commented on the kiddies too.

At no time would what she wore be more significant than on the night of November 4 2008, when, win or lose, the eyes of the world would be upon the Obama family as the four of them processed on to the stage in Grant Park, Chicago. If Michelle had dressed herself and her daughters for defeat, she could hardly have chosen anything more saturnine. Seven-year-old Sasha was dressed from head to foot in black: black dress, black hose, black shoes. Ten-year-old Malia was just as black about the legs, but her dress was blood-red. Any colour is better than pink, but these robust choices hardly strike one as girly. The girls' odd outfits were clearly chosen as foils to their mother's dress, which was all black with an eye-burning red panel that splattered itself down the front like a geometrical haemorrhage, held in by a criss-cross sash of black.

The red extended upwards almost to the neckline, and downwards to mid-thigh, petering out top and bottom in a sort of cast-off splatter. The effect of the strong contrast was to turn a mere frock into a poster in the most disturbing colours known to man, the colours of chaos. The juxtaposition of a rectangle of red on a black field is what we might expect to find on a flag or a shield. Coral snakes and venomous spiders signal their destructive potential by the display of similarly violent contrasts.

Come on Germaine, they're just kids, and I for one thought their dresses owed something to Bakst and his onion-domed orientalism, which ushered out the funereal Victorian era, and propelled it into giddy modernity.

You'll note that even La Greer mentions the spidery connotations of Mrs. Obama's dress. That's something my own mother mentioned, as we watched her.

Personally, if I were Michelle Obama, I'd rather be connoted with a black widow spider, regardless of venomous allusion, than a muppet.

To my slight bemusement, even my very serious father had an opinion on Michelle's dress, after being told by me about Greer's article.

"She looks like she just took off Sweeney Todd's apron."

Though he and my mother are avid fans of FashionTV, I've never known him to evince the slightest comment on women's fashion.

Kinda makes you wonder what Statler and Waldorf would've made of it, eh?

P.S.: It's true that Narciso Rodriguez is not like many Cuban-Americans politically (he's a big fat liberal and anti-Bush, but then what do you expect from a Cubanazo from Newark), but it shows a distinct lack of knowledge about him to suggest he would be duping his client to make a "Cuban revolutionary" statement.

That's more Vera Wang.

ADDED: Michelle Obama = ET? If her critics are right, and her red/black number was pregnant with code, perhaps it was the foreshadowing of an exoplanet, Formalhaut B? ...B for Barack!

You Know How You Can Tell When A State Is Young?

When you throw a 50th anniversary ball to celebrate it, and seven of your State's eleven Governors show up.

Here is incumbent Governor, Sarah Palin, surrounded by Bill Sheffield, left, Walter J. Hickel, Frank Murkowski, Tony Knowles, Steve Cowper, and Keith Miller, right, and a seated Territorial Gov. Mike Stepovich.

The photo is interesting to make a point about Palin's "maverick" status, which highlights her independent streak as a Republican politician and reformer.

Two of the Governors you see above are no fans of Sarah Palin.

One is Frank Murkowski, the Republican governor she beat to win the actual Republican nomination, and whose profligate ways led to buying that famous jet plane Palin put on sale on eBay. He also appointed his own daughter, Lisa, to a Senate seat. He and Ted Stevens were the most powerful politicians in Alaska in their day.

And then there is Tony Knowles, the Democrat governor she actually beat in the election. He underestimated her in the debates, and came to regret it.

But the photo also provides us an occasion for amusement.

Remember that fuschia dress she's wearing? You might have seen it in photos of Palin's inaugural ball as governor. Here she is, being led around gracefully on the dancefloor by the First Dude.

It appears that she has only one good evening dress, so the days of the RNC sprucing her up with Neiman Marcus duds are definitely over.

Whilst the hair is an improvement from the slap-on-gel version of the inaugural ball, the newer photo shows her wearing that horrific ALASKA pin loaded with Swarovski crystals. Oh God, I'm surprised she didn't add the polar bear pin too.

(Hey, I admire her, but I am still a woman when it comes to criticising dress sense. It's our birthright, so natch)

Off to watch either Quantum of Solace or Battle in Seattle. Will post a review tomorrow.

"Blackie O"

I was emailed by a Sundries reader last night:

Have you heard the name Michelle Collins [comedienne/writer/contributor] called Michelle Obama?

Wait for it....

Blackie O.

I told my mother, who did exactly what I had done: first gasped, then started laughing.

I thought to myself, if people can't make jokes about the Obamas (and some comics have gone on the record saying it'll be a lean four years of White House comedy) then we're lost as a people.

But I was surprised, upon researching this nickname online, that "Best Week Ever's" Collins wasn't the first to say this out loud, as people can come up with exactly the same idea, without being accused of poaching, you know.

According to Google, it was stylist Philip Bloch and Mrs. Forest Whitaker who first labeled Mrs. Obama, Blackie O!

You might remember Philip Bloch from his various fashionista television show appearances. With his vague John Waters-like air, and David Nivens attire and moustache, he is unsparing of any national figure's taste.

"Blackie O." coming from anyone else might provoke paroxysms of rage against racism, but apparently it's okay when it's coming from a waspish, effeminate stylist and the black wife of an Oscar-award winning actor.

Nevertheless, in Stylelist magazine, one has a sense that not all Americans are on board with Mrs. Obama's style.

1- Blackie 0 is more then she deserves. Video of her at the polls this morning show her looking very sloppy. Nasty uncombed hair, and the children looked as if they just tumbled out of bed. No class ( or should I say , no class)

2- I could not believe it when I saw her at the polls yesterday. SHE WAS A MESS!!! It was as if she was saying " what you see is what you get" She does not have to act anymore!! That is the way she is... To me it was a very special day! and she tried to look her worst ! I could not believe it..... she knew the cameras were going to be there!! Jackie O, OH NO!!!!!

3- Michelle isn't even close to Jackie O. Michelle needs to hide figure flaws big gut, big butt, which Jackie didn't. Maybe she could try understated elegance something she hasn't figured out. The black and red thing she wore for the O's acceptance speech was horrible and very unflattering.

4- I don't think Ms. Kennedy would have come near that hot mess of a dress michelle wore last night... not to mention go out in public looking like she just rolled out of bed. You would think she would take a little more care about her and her girls' appearance yesterday morning when they went to the polls.

5- Hmm. yeah, ok. Blackie-O. I guess it's supposed to be some kind of joke. But, I'm not laughing. As an American citizen I'm disgusted by it - but not surprised. Stuff like this makes me glad I left the country 10 years ago.

[ed. vbspurs: What are the chances this last commentarist doesn't at all mind, "Caribou Barbie"?]

It's interesting, this harping on how she looked when she went to the polls. I had heard that her eldest daughter, Malia, was sharply criticised by African-Americans for having badly combed hair. I myself hadn't noticed it, which should tell you something.

(That for one, I'm not looking to tear her down at every opportunity, even subconsciously)

Similarly, her dress for the Grant Park speech didn't make me wince, as it unfortunately did my more fashion-conscious mother, who furthermore later heard from a friend of hers that black and red were symbolic in Africa.

(Via Stilakuten's Weblog)

I thought that was absolute claptrap, but I searched around for some justification for this nutty view.

I found it.

And to this historic moment in time, the new American President’s wife, Michelle, presented herself to the World at the side of her husband as both the United States new First Lady and a ‘visual warning’ to her, and her husbands, enemies that she would not become the ‘black widow’ they fully expect her to be.

Though virtually unnoticed by the American people, and totally ignored by their propaganda media, Michelle Obama stood confidentially beside her husband on this historic night garbed in the ancient African Bantu ceremonial ‘Royal Robe’ meant to signify that that which they most feared would not hold power over them, and which in this case was her dress of black doused with the reverse triangles of red upon her breast and abdomen like the ‘black widow’ spider [2nd and 3rd photos on left] she has called to have power over.

The history of the ancient Bantu peoples of Africa has been nearly entirely erased from Western history other than the mention of their mass migration in 1,000BC (still considered one of the largest in human history) forced upon them by the new ‘gods’ of the Middle East seeking domination over our human race and fearing our peoples ever becoming united against them.

Oh My God. I don't think I can stand four years of Michelle Obama criticism along these lines.

Blackie O. is one, rather giggle-inducing, slap-producing thing. But people seeing black spider code in her choice of clothing, based on Bantu history, is quite another thing.

It makes me want to overcompensate, and in terms of fairness admit that Sarah Palin's wardrobe, after the disreputable $150,000 clothing leak against her, made me wince at the end.

Remember her iconic red top, made famous by Tina Fey, and entirely her own from Out of the Closet in Anchorage? Well, that is fine. But coupled with jeans? No Sarah. Bad Sarah. NO.

Whew, there I feel better now about "Blackie O". Heh, it is a funny name though. I really liked that email bringing this to my attention. That's when it hit me about all this brouhaha:

Americans will be just fine.

IN THE COMMENTS: Bekah references Palin's pink Eskimo garb, with matching "mukluks" (the reindeer hide leggings worn by them).

LOL! We joke that Michelle always looks like a woman from our former church, who would take a midday face-down nap and come back for evening services with her hair sticking straight up.

I hope Sarah never again wears that pink...dress?...she had on in a couple of older photos, of her talking with someone in the grocery store while holding newborn Trig. It had a drop waist and was like a horrible sack. She had leggings on with it, I think.

TV Guide showed a pic of her in it (at least I hope she doesn't have two of them!) from the front. I would wear Garanimals if they were available in my size, and even I was like, "Oh, you poor, beautiful, confused woman...."

Beks, she was talking to a lady shopper, but I've seen another one of her at some rally, wearing the same one.

Some of the funniest, and yet, most anti-Palin commentary I have ever read was in the HuffPo post about this, in September:

What the eff is on her feet? Moose skin?

love the whale earrings! (not)

I can't help myself -- the grocery store outfit IS truly bizarre. But when you remember her spiritual guru is into routing out witchcraft and demons, it kind or makes sense. Both the Pigly-Wiggly I'm-shopping for-Styrofoam get-up and the speech-before-millions outfit say: "No, demons here!"

I'm concerned about the "Everyday Foam Cups" in the woman's basket!

I have never seen anyone hold an infant like Sarah is in the photo. Why isn't she supporting the baby's head with her hand?

I noticed that before her outfit.

Actually I'm gonna throw her a bone...she looks like a Mom whose holding baby # 5...the more you have the less you worry about the asthetics. Kinda like you wouldn't dare let your first child put a nuk in their mouth that dropped on the floor but by # 3 you lick it yourself and stick it back in without missing a beat...and they don't die or catch a disease!

What is that pink thing anyway?

You know that pink outfit is still in her closet!

It's horrible.

I'd question her judgement right there. I wouldn't even wear that in the house.

I absolutely detest Palin, but this post is pretty ridiculous too. Palin is wearing traditional Inuit clothes (the native people of Northern Alaska). That photo is at a grocery store in Barrow, the northernmost city in America, so its definitely not a big fashion place.

Obama 08

As commenter, Rose said, no one can deconstruct, and criticise women like other women -- especially about fashion.

ADDED: Oh what the hell, in for a penny, in for a pound. Here's another less than flattering photo of Governor Palin I had seen, but never wanted to publish.

According to the AP, this is dated July 2008, at the Philadelphia Zoo with Piper. Trig had been born in April, but I tell you, for a woman who didn't "show" that much for her pregnancy, she certainly doesn't look like the svelte perky miss we know and love, here.

Those shorts and that black "Army" T-shirt...no, just no, Sarah. And what is that HANDBAG! That looks like something out of TJ Maxx' Clearance rack!

[Correction: That handbag is TRIG in a kiddie sling. My God, someone spank me]

Okay, see, I can be critical towards Palin. Bite me.

UPDATE: Guess what a local, Leftist blogger who attracts a very misogynist audience with disgusting jokes about Sarah Palin has written about this post?

Neither does our own local blogger, Sundries, a proud Republican, who, when she isn't writing about what Sarah Palin is wearing today, composes stuff like this...

I was emailed by a Sundries reader last night:

Have you heard the name Michelle Collins [comedienne/writer/contributor] called Michelle Obama?

Wait for it....

Blackie O.

I told my mother, who did exactly what I had done: first gasped, then started laughing.

Here's another moniker that will make you gasp, then cause you to howl hysterically, Ms. Sundries: Barack's new nickname....wait for it...

Brownie B!

That's some funny sh*t, isn't it?!?

Now run off and go watch yourself some Blackface. Such a kidder, you.

I'm actually very glad this very modest blog (have they ever been linked to by Daily Kos or Atrios, like Sundries has, I wonder?) included a link so that their readers could actually read the full post.

They can't have failed to have noticed that it was hardly a slam against Mrs. Obama, unless you count a gay man and a black woman thinking up that nickname for her as a slam, and I writing about it.

Maybe they were upset that I debunked a myth about her dress? Or perhaps they were upset I made fun of Sarah Palin's wardrobe, or in a post above, praised Condi Rice?

I honestly don't know. I do have some great Michelle Obama jokes planned in the next four years, so perhaps we'll find out.

Sarah's "New" Clothes

Governor Palin has been on an one-woman mission to clear up any misconceptions about how she dresses, these past few days. This attitude has contributed to those rumours that she is "going rogue" (which if true, I fully applaud her in doing) from Team McCain.

On Sunday, she showed up in two rallies wearing the following getups:

A pink jacket which she mentioned was her own, purchased from the now famous Out Of The Closet consignment shop, in Anchorage.

And in that Asheville rally, she showed up wearing her knockout blue jeans.

She actually donned those jeans the previous day too, when she dropped the puck in the St. Louis Blues - Los Angeles Kings hockey game. Look at that gorgeous long black slicker she has on.

I don't know what the RNC were thinking. I think her normal clothes look outstanding on her. Give ME a million dollars, and I wouldn't look as good as she does with the $150,000 they gave her in ready-bought clothes. Further, I bet you that she would've made that money go farther had they given her a voucher.

A woman always knows how to make a buck stretch, which I tell myself everytime I hit Loehmann's.

Whoa. Hotness!

These are certainly not "Mom Jeans" Palin is wearing.

I wonder if the press corps creamed themselves when they saw this. 'Cause you know, remember?

"Move. Move. He's killing us. Agent. Agent. Sit downnnnnnn!"

Exit Question: Why is it that no one calls out these vapid women journalists as having a collective girlcrush on Obama, but God forbid a man thinks Palin is beautiful, it's just their dingaling talking?

ADDED: What the hay. More snaps of Governor Palin (and Trig) arriving at the NBC studios for the read-throughs.

Would you believe I have a pair of old Diesel *correction* jeans in exactly that colour and long cut? I rarely wear jeans, but they are a dead sexy pair.

Dude, I Am So Excited

The McCain rally was pressing on my mind, even during a movie I was watching earlier.

(Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, in case you wonder. I loved it)

I have tried looking for a red top, as requested by the McCain website, but alas, I can only find red boots. They are ankle-high suede boots and I have a killer outfit to go with it, but I fear getting them mussed.

So I'm off to find maybe a red t-shirt, as I'm sure FIU crowd will not be dressed to the nines.

Speaking of which, guess who was in Bangor, Maine on Thursday, walking around with these hotcha mama black boots?

Hey, remember when Governor Palin was rolled out as the VP nominee in August, and Liberals were outraged? They said, "If McCain wanted a woman, why didn't he pick Kay Bailey Hutchison or Olympia Snowe of Maine??".

Looking at the photo below, I think we know one of the reasons why not.

Here is a woman unfraid of looking like the absolutely stunning physical specimen she is. She doesn't hide her feminity under prioress garb like Senator Snowe. She struts her knee-high black boots like Condi Rice inspecting the troops.

You know, I might just wear those red boots after all.

Sarah At Joe King's Shoe Store

What with the sudden national fame of the ultimate "Joe Six-Pack", Joe the Plumber, it's only fitting that another Joe makes an appearance in these photos.

That's Governor Palin taking another shopping break, but in the less girlie confines of a running shoes store -- Joe King's in Concord, New Hampshire.

The Governatrix tried on several pairs before choosing this orange and grey number.

I have to find out which type of running shoe she chose, though I know she made a point of them being waterproof to withstand the snow of Alaska (I didn't care for that remark, actually. She should've said "the snow of Washington").

About Those Red Shoes

Another close-up of those red shoes Palin was wearing during the debate. Gator? Lizard? Either way, you know it'll give the Fluffy Bunny Brigade a conniption. Murderer!

She's got average-sized feet. I vary from size 7-7.5 American, and I'd wager she is around that, too.

Obama Sashays Down The Runway

Well, a model wearing an ensemble from the Sonia Rykiel prêt-a-porter collection in Paris, does.

Just how much of a disconnect is there when a legendary French designer like Rykiel is slapping on a male American politician's name on a dress, when there is a (gorgeous) female politician running for Vice-President?
